Excursion: Greenwich

Greenwich is a cute little town that is 20 minutes away from Central London, which is notable for its maritime history and for giving the name to the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and Greenwich Meridian (0° longitude). It has a lot of little shops and the overall ambience is very unique and different.

While this excursion is voluntary, I recommend visiting the area because of the group deal on the price of the tickets and the attractions within it. It also ties in with the lecture for that day! By paying £5, you can go to Greenwich for a really low cost, compared to the normal cost of £16. The £5 covers the cost of the ferry and admission to the Royal Observatory Museum.

The ferry takes about 30 minutes to get to Greenwich. It cruises along the Thames River, passing historic and modern places of interest. A member of the crew will give you an audio tour describing each place to the best of their ability. One notable place is the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Besides being on a boat (Insta and Snapchat worthy!), the ferry is a great place to take in your surroundings in a different light. Plus, the pictures and selfies are beautiful.

Once you're in Greenwich, you'll walk over to the Royal Observatory Museum. Walk around, learn how the longitude problem was solved by various astronomers, see the Harrison clocks and have "A Walk To Remember" moment. Specifically, be like Jamie and cross off one item on your bucket list: being in two places at one time. The Prime Meridian will allow you to do just that!
